Casino Player is celebrating its 25th year in print, and what better way to herald this landmark anniversary than a yearlong series of features detailing the 25 greatest casino properties nationwide. Follow the Mississippi River 45 minutes downstream from Memphis’ Beale Street and you’ll find the party continues in Tunica, Mississippi, a small town that serves as the surprising home to a series of bustling casinos. Although severe poverty permeated the region in the '80s, Tunica experienced a reversal of fortune in 1992 when it opened the first casino in the unincorporated village of Tunica Resorts. Today, nearly 10 casinos sit upon the banks of the Mississippi, providing more than 6,000 hotel rooms to visitors, including some establishments that have received particularly high praise from local publications.

In 2013, Sam’s Town Hotel and Casino Tunica was named the best overall casino in Tunica by Southern Gaming and Destinations Magazine. Take in the sweeping views of the surrounding region from the eight-story hotel tower or make your way to the casino, home to 1,100 slot and video machines and more than 26 gaming tables.

Horseshoe Tunica garnered accolades for its host of entertainment options by Southern Gaming and Destinations Magazine in 2013. While the casino includes 1,700 slot machines, the elite poker room provides such high-end perks as tableside food service and massages, free Wi-Fi and more than 15 big screen televisions.
